Community Confab this Sunday

Larchmont United Neighborhood Association (LUNA) has been building a stronger, safer, more connected Larchmont through events, advocacy and beautification.

If you share these values, please join us this weekend to connect, celebrate, and be part of what is next in our Hancock Park neighborhood.

Here is a snapshot of what LUNA and its members and volunteers have brought to our community:

  • Produced multiple events for neighbors to meet for fun, connection or purposeful efforts.
  • Galvanized beautification efforts in the area with multiple local clean-ups.
  • Improved the safety and security of our neighborhood by building a new block captain network.
  • Built productive, cooperative, working relationships with associations representing adjacent neighborhoods, the Larchmont business community, and local media. Also formed alliances with Kids Helping LA, the Livable Communities Initiative and the Wilshire Warriors.
  • Fostered a constructive working relationship with our Council Member, Hugo Soto-Martinez, and his staff at CD13
  • Assumed local leadership roles. Two board members also serve on the Board of the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council, another is an alternate Board Member. LUNA Board Members also serve on the Outreach, Transportation and Public Safety & Quality of Life Committees.
  • Produce the annual Larchmont Spring Block Party, the wonderful creation of the Larchmont Spring Block Party Committee. It is the largest neighborhood event, open to all.
  • Led every advocacy effort on behalf of Larchmont – from land use, quality of life to safety and security: fighting inappropriate development on N. Larchmont Blvd., fighting SB79, bringing the Livable Communities Initiative front and center into the conversation to develop Upper Larchmont, shutting down the attempted hi-jacking of our Town Square – Parking Lot 691 (aka the Farmers Market Parking Lot) – for development and keeping it intact for all its purposes; lobbying for practical results-driven efforts to clean-up the Western Avenue sex-trafficking and its impact along the eastern edge of Larchmont and other neighborhoods.
  • Led the first in-person neighborhood meeting in Larchmont in years and drew a standing room only response from the neighborhood.
  • Championed the Livable Communities Initiative and its mission of walkable neighborhoods built at neighborhood scale. Endorsed Larchmont 2030 and helped build a strong unified neighborhood consensus around this thoughtful approach to the future development of Upper Larchmont.
  • Assisted neighbors in creating the Backyard Comedy Series, stage first-in-Larchmont events to raise money for LAFD and other worthy causes.
  • Advised many neighbors individually on how to navigate the city tin order to get services or responses.

LUNA is just getting started!
